Court orders the release of a Christian woman after death sentence in Sudan



An appeal court in central Sudan ordered the release of a woman who had been sentenced to death because she refused to renounce her Christian faith to convert back to Islam.
Meriam Yehya Ibrahim 27, reunited with her husband after getting out of custody, said her lawyer, Mohaed Mustafa. The death penalty was upturned on Monday 23rd June in by an appeal court in Khartoum saying that the initial judgment against her faulty.
Ibrahim was also sentenced to 100 lashes an die by hanging for committing adultery as her 2012 marriage to Daniel Wani was considered invalid under Sudan's Islamic Sharia laws. Ibrahim gave birth to a baby girl in a prison in the capital of Sudan last month.
