Authorities shut down OAU as students hold staff hostage

The management took the the decision to shut down the school following three days continuous protest by the students.
The Obafemi Awolowo University has been shut and students ordered to vacate school premises after a three days of continuous protest by the students.

PREMIUM TIMES MAGAZINE gathered that several staff of the University administrative office, called the Senate building, were still helled inside the building as at 5:50 p.m as students barricaded it to demand an audience with the Vice Chancellor (V.C) and ensure a reversal of the fee hike.
As at the time when the incident took place it wasn't clear if the V.C Bamitale Omole was inside the building.
Mr Omole had early in June defended the fee increase saying:
"The charges being paid by the OAU students were not only the lowest in the entire Nigerian University system but also the most ridiculous in the entire tertiary educational system in Africa," he said at a press conference.
