Contrary to reports published by Sahara Reporters concerning the health
status of Amy Ngozi Adadevoh, younger sister of late Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh
who died from the virus, the Lagos State government Tuesday stated that younger
Adadevoh never tested positive to the
virus. Lagos state
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, while speaking at a media briefing,
revealed that the woman actually had symptoms of the virus but when her blood
was tested, the result was negative and
she was discharged. “The report on social media that one of the secondary
contacts at the Isolation Centre at IDH in Yaba tested positive is false,” he
said. Idris said the state had screened and tracked a cumulative total of 321
contacts, 159 of whom have been cleared and discharged on completion of the
21-day surveillance period while 158 are still being monitored. The health
commissioner further stated that there was one confirmed contact which tested
positive at the isolation center while there was a contact tested whose result
was yet to arrive as at the time of the briefing. Speaking on the possibility
of the seven primary contacts who have been discharged to be re-infected, he
said, “They cannot be infected by the strain anymore but they could be infected
by another strain. Clearance certificates are nonetheless issued to contacts
that have completed the 21-day maximum incubation period of EVD”.
